Will Julie Andrews Return For The Newest ‘Princess Diaries’? Her Answer Seems Unsure
After spending over five years in development, Princess Diaries 3 is finally gaining momentum. Supergirl writer Aadrita Mukerji is set to pen the screenplay, while Debra Martin Chase, who produced the first two Princess Diaries movies, returns as producer.
Naturally, the question on everyone’s mind is whether or not the main characters of the original films, Anne Hathaway and Dame Julie Andrews, will return for the continuation. Hathaway has said that she is ready to put on the crown once again to play the Queen of Genovia, as long as Disney will have her, and also expressed that parties involved would find a way to have Andrews appear in the film in some capacity.
“I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it. If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”

On the other hand, Andrews has brought her future with the franchise into question. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Dame Andrews stated:
“I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible. It was talked about very shortly after [the second sequel] came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run.”
While audiences would absolutely love to see Julie Andrews grace their screens one more time as former Queen Clarisse of Genovia, it will ultimately be up to the producers and Andrews.
If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can watch both Princess Diaries 1 & 2 on Disney+.
