Why Did The Egyptian Gods From ‘Moon Knight’ Not Step In To Stop Thanos?

The Disney+ series Moon Knight has started to reveal some information about whether Moon Knight and the Egyptian Gods were affected by the blip caused by Thanos’ snap while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. This blip wiped out 50% of all life in Avengers: Infinity War. By the time Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame was over, everyone who was wiped out returned. Little did anyone realize that Moon Knight and the Egyptian Gods were not affected by the blip. In episode 2 of Moon Knight, Marc Spector’s identity was known before Thanos’ snap. This means that Moon Knight and Marc Spector were around. So, why didn’t the Egyptian Gods from Moon Knight step in to help?

Marc Spector had his passport issued during the blip, demonstrating that he did not vanish during the event and was actively living in some capacity. He had been operating as Moon Knight for at least five years, the five-year gap between Infinity War and Endgame, after the events of Hawkeye. During this time, there is a strained relationship between Khonshu and his fellow gods, the Ennead. This strained relationship extends to the current timeline. In episode 3 of Moon Knight, Khonshu uses Marc Spector’s body to assemble with the avatars of Horus, Isis, Hathor, Osiris, and Tefnut to prevent Arthur Harrow from unleashing Ammit upon the world. During this encounter, it is evident that Khonshu is not liked by the Gods very much. In fact, they are more forgiving to Harrow than Khonshu.

If you remember, Moon Knight is an avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian God of the Moon. Khonshu was not able to enter Earth without the use of an avatar. Marc Spector was his main avatar during this time, setting up Moon Knight for Spector’s adventures as the fist of vengeance. The Egyptian Gods, the Ennead, decided to stay out of human affairs and only be observers when the humans abandoned them. Thus, the gods are not worshipped by Egyptians anymore. Hence, this explains why the Egyptian Gods did not get involved when Thanos planned to wipe out half of the universe with the Infinity Gauntlet. This is very similar to the practices of the Eternals; they too have a stringent non-intervention directive when it comes to humans and their issues.

This is interesting because the Egyptian God’s avatars’ powers demonstrate that they were very powerful, and Khonshu’s ability to manipulate the cycle of the day was enough to help the Avengers during Infinity War. Their power is so tremendous that it is probable that the Ennead could have defeated Thanos without the Avengers. It would have only taken minimal effort if they could work as a team. But instead, the Ennead decided to not intervene, allowing Thanos to complete his plan in Infinity War, wiping out half the universe with one snap of the Infinity Gauntlet.

It will be interesting to see how Moon Knight may have aided the Avengers in traveling through time. Hence, demonstrating that Moon Knight was not affected by Thanos’ snap of the Infinity Gauntlet. Three episodes of Moon Knight are currently streaming on Disney+ with three more remaining. It’s fascinating when heroes like the Eternals and powerful entities like the Ennead allow certain events to happen like the blip. It’s like someone watching a predator take down its prey without intervening because it’s the natural order of life, and interfering would be introducing chaos. It’s also a convenient way to introduce new characters without having to explain why they survived the blip or didn’t try to stop Thanos. Everyone is a Watcher.
