Why 'Star Wars Galaxy Of Adventures' Is Underrated

In a Star Wars Galaxy, every day can be an adventure.

I recently sat down to watch Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures, the animated YouTube Short series released by Disney in late 2018. The animated mini-series is a culmination of what made the original Clone Wars, and the sequel series, Star Wars Resistance, so great and it wasn’t afraid to give us a few original tales in our already beautiful galaxy.

On your first watch-through, even if you haven’t seen all 9 installments of the Skywalker Saga, you’ll most likely recognize more than one familiar face and definitely a good selection of familiar voices. The Clone Wars fans among us will most definitely recognize the iconic voice of Tom Kane, the voice actor responsible for a slew of Clone Wars characters including Admiral Yularen, Jedi Master Yoda, and even the series narrator. Many fav-favorite characters from the Skywalker Saga make an appearance, using audio and voice lines from the Saga films, including Hayden Christianson as Anakin and Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan.

When the series opens, you’re greeted by yet another iconic voice; Dante Basco as our narrator. You may know Basco from playing Jay, in Star Wars Rebels and more notably, the beloved Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Regardless of the talent behind this project, one can definitely be forgiven for overlooking this piece of Star Wars content. It is, after all, targeted towards a younger audience.

While we do see Kylo Ren go full dark side on a few resistance members, the show is definitely aimed at a younger audience. Still, I couldn’t help but enjoy it. The average Star Wars fan would most likely enjoy these shorts just based on the sheer adventure and fan-favorite characters packed into each episode.

The animation is definitely a little softer than some fans are used to. Differing drastically from the animation style of Clone Wars and Rebels. The colors are lighter and there’s even less dialogue so that younger fans don’t have to pay super close attention to the plot of each episode in order to enjoy it.

This series was no stranger to renewing beloved characters from the prequels and letting us enjoy their stories all over again. Eventually, in late 2020 Disney was on a promotional kick for The Rise of Skywalker and renewed the show for a second season, leading us to some great moments from the sequels gang including Rey Skywalker, Kylo Ren, and BB-8. They even gave us a whole episode dedicated to Finn and Po’s bromance.

For fans of the original trilogy, the shining moments definitely came from the episodes that reimagined incredible and unforgettable scenes from the first three movies, even using original audio from Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and the late, great Carrie Fisher from way back in 1980 on Empire Strikes Back.

This wonderful adventure takes us back to our favorite places, like the Dagobah system, Mustafar, and of course the Skywalkers’ homeworld of Tatooine, all seen through a new lens. The show wouldn’t be possible without Dan Brooks, the series creator. Brooks is also the Content Strategist and Editor of Lucasfilm’s official Star Wars website.

You can watch this special micro-series on the official "Star Wars Kids" YouTube channel as well as the official Star Wars site. Galaxy of Adventures is definitely worth the watch. Whether you're seven, or thirty-seven, there’s something here for every fan. Unless you wanted a Jar Jar episode, then we apologize, as there’s no Jar Jar.
