What We Learned From HBO's 'House Of The Dragon' Panel During San Diego Comic-Con

HBO Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon

A lot of exciting news came out of San Diego last weekend during Comic-Con. For HBO’s Game Of Thrones fans, the feeling seems to be pure elation. Even George R.R. Martin has been pleasantly surprised with the series, going as far as to say, ‘I have been very, very fortunate here,” when heaping praise on Ryan Condal for how he has handled the adaptation. During the House Of Dragons panel, Martin sat down with several actors and executive producers on the show to discuss what fans should expect.

The most interesting tidbits were not Martin’s thoughts on the adaptation: but rather what we learned from the cast and crew. For example, House Of Dragons will have a mind-bending 17 dragons throughout the series. That is a wide gap compared to Daenerys’s three dragons. And with those, she was almost able to conquer all of Westeros. There is also the story Fire And Blood, which is the basis for House Of Dragons.

Compared to Game Of Thrones, which was based on the War Of The Roses, Fire And Blood is Martin’s take on the anarchy that came before the war. The show is set at the height of the Targaryen dynasty’s power, as Ryan Condal said, “right before the bloom comes off the rose.” This makes the series interesting for the viewer. After all, no one wants to see King Viserys building roads for four or five seasons. Speaking of King Viserys, There were some juicy tidbits regarding the leader of House Targaryen.

The actor portraying Viserys onscreen, Paddy Considine, Says that Viserys is a kind man. Viserys inherited the crown because of his kindness and scholarly pursuits. He cares about the world around him, which adds an element of tragedy. Martin added that a good king “... is someone who regards being king as a duty than a privilege you’re entitled to.” So it is clear that Viserys is not the same kind of king as Aerys II, who precipitated the events of Game Of Thrones

With all this news surrounding House Of Dragons, no one can deny that the show is drawing eyes before its release, a release coming sooner rather than later. With the series is set to premiere on August 21st of this year. So make sure to renew your HBO MAX subscriptions for the next chapter in HBO’s Game Of Thrones franchise.
