“Wednesday’s child is full of woe…”

The announcement everyone has been waiting for did not come on a Wednesday nor on Friday the 13th (Wednesday Addams’ birthday). After the success of Wednesday, which premiered this past November, there has been discussion about whether a second season will follow. Now it is official. Wednesday will return for a second season.

Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have released a statement:

“Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gough hinted at what could come after the whirlwind that is Season 1:

“We wanna sort of explore and sort of complicate all of those relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for season two, and I think that’s something that we’re excited to explore. For us, the show also is really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid (Emma Myers) really being at the center of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying. So, we’re excited to explore now that Wednesday’s dipped her toe into the friendship pool, what’s that gonna look like?”

It is unclear at this time if Tim Burton will return as executive producer and which characters (other than the obvious Wednesday Addams) will appear in Season 2. Wednesday left off with many unanswered questions. What will happen to Nevermore? Will there be a new monster to hunt and a new mystery to solve? How will Wednesday deal with her newfound power?

Season 1 of Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix.
