Even in post-pandemic times, the summer months are a crowded place for blockbusters, and every studio tries to move their films into a position where they don't have to face too much competition. Warner Bros. has now moved the premiere of The Flash up one week from June 23 to June 16.

Previously the only other movie that is currently scheduled to open on June 23 is an Untitled Adele Lim/Lionsgate comedy project, but now the Andy Muschietti-directed DC Extended Universe flick which involves Barry Allen/The Flash traveling back in time to prevent the murder of his mother will have to face off against Pixar's Elemental, No Hard Feelings with Jennifer Lawrance and the horror comedy The Blackening, all of which are wide openings.

As usual, the studio didn't explain why they changed the premiere date, but it seems that Warner is worried about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which opens just one week after the previous premiere date of The Flash, on June 30. As the target demographic for both movies is quite similar, the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise could steal a lot of audiences away from the DC superhero movie, while a Disney/Pixar animation film and a relatively low-level horror-comedy might seem less of a competition.

On the other hand, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse now opens just two weeks before The Flash and Transformers: Rise of the Beast just one week prior, on June 9. While the Transformers franchise is more or less dead at this point, going up against the sequel of one of the highest-regarded Spider-Man films (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - 2018) might be a tough spot.

But as said above, the summer months are a crowded place for blockbusters.

The cinematic version of the Flash takes place in another universe as the TV series of the same title and stars Ezra Miller as the titular superhero, as well as Micheal Keaton and Ben Affleck as different versions of Batman.
