Sports fans will have an easier time streaming their desired competitions, games, and matches according to this recent news.  Disney, FOX, and Warner Bros. Discovery are coming together in a joint effort to launch a new sports-based platform!  This means that content from ESPN, Fox Sports, and ESPN will be broadcast under one roof, making it more accessible to a wider range of consumers.  Networks that are currently going to be added to the list include ESPN, ABC, TNT, ESPNews, TBS, truTV, and more.

Disney CEO Bob Iger commented on the Joint Venture, explaining, “The launch of this new streaming sports service is a significant moment for Disney and ESPN, a major win for sports fans, and an important step forward for the media business.”  Executive Chair and CEO of FOX Lachlan Murdoch also chimed in with their thoughts about the future endeavors, “We’re pumped to bring the FOX Sports portfolio to this new and exciting platform. We believe the service will provide passionate fans outside of the traditional bundle an array of amazing sports content all in one place.”

“At WBD, our ambition is always to connect our leading content and brands with as many viewers as possible, and this exciting joint venture and the unparalleled combination of marquee sports rights and access to the greatest sporting events in the world allows us to do just that. This new sports service exemplifies our ability as an industry to drive innovation and provide consumers with more choice, enjoyment and value and we’re thrilled to deliver it to sports fans.”

Pricing for this new platform has yet to be released.  The current release window of this platform is Fall 2024.  How this will impact television ratings and performance has yet to be seen; the initial platform cost may help or hinder this outcome.  In the meantime, each service provider still maintains specific access to its respective sports channels, and cable is still an option.
