Warner Bros. Discovery Could Call Their New Streaming Service MAX
The Warner Bros./Discovery merger is reportedly closing in on a platform name. While it has not been finalized yet, the name “Max” is a top contender for the title, according to a CNBC report. This follows the newly established codename “BEAM.”
Coining a name takes time and involves brand strategizing and legal conversations. It has to communicate the service as a whole, not just one component. With as massive of a merger as this, there is a lot to consider when crafting that name. It should be memorable yet representative of what consumers will be getting overall. Essentially, it is not just HBO products nor just Discovery. The service will encompass many other properties.

Similarities in structure can be drawn with Disney+. This new service will have HBO Max, Discovery, Warner Bros, and DC Comics, all sorted by brand to create a focused browsing experience. This will make a range of content available in one place. The name “Max” will be fitting if that is chosen, as the content received will be a “Maxed-out” array of different genres and styles.
The launch date for this platform is tentatively set for Spring 2023. The price for the monthly subscription has yet to be confirmed as well as it is still under discussion.
