Now that two major parts of the Hollywood labor apparatus are picketing coast-to-coast, guild rules prohibit members from promoting their works. It’s affected everything from interviews to San Diego Comic-Con. It’s meant to be disruptive, especially as several major productions are coming in the second half of the year, like The Marvels and of course Dune: Part Two. As a result of these developments, the major studios, namely Warner Bros., are considering shifting the release of their upcoming films. For Warner Bros., this means Dune: Part Two, The Color Purple, and Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom.

Not all sources, according to Variety, have confirmed this, however. According to one of their sources, due to the coordination with Legendary, it would require Legendary’s go-ahead to change the release, and they have not made any moves regarding that. Another source says there have not been any talks and the release dates are going forward as is. As it stands, this could indicate that the studios are not confident in the resolution of the strike by the fall release schedule, especially if they’re considering delaying The Color Purple and Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, which have end of the year releases.

Films often rely heavily on their cast to promote their work, and with SAG-AFTRA rules barring members from doing so, nor can they promote past work for struck companies. Disney recently made headlines by using character actors to promote the release of The Haunted Mansion in the absence of SAG-AFTRA members that were on strike.

The second part of Dune is currently scheduled to release on November 3, with The Color Purple coming out on December 20, and Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom coming five days later on December 25.
