Following his departure from DC Films as president of the company after the release of the Black Adam movie, Walter Hamada will continue making films with the launch of his new production company, 18hz Productions.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hamada will be overseeing the horror genre for Paramount+ in a new deal made with the streaming platform that is supposedly set to last several years. As of now, the former Warner Bros. president has only filled two seats in his new company. He hired Nathan Samdahl (Smile) as senior vice president and Nick Romano as a creative executive.

In his interview with THR, Hamada expressed his excitement over the deal and how his newly hired partners will be key components of the new company. For him, “Nathan’s work on hit genre movies like Paramount’s Smile, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and A Quiet Place as well as his extensive filmmaker relationships make him the perfect addition to the team,” and “Nick is a true horror fan” whose passion for the genre is “contagious.”

With this new deal, Hamada is setting foot on a different ground, going from the superhero genre to the horror genre is a rather big leap. Of course, he is not going in completely blind since he is in a great company whose familiarity with the horror genre will help the new group find its way.

The production company is in its early days so no projects have been announced yet.
