The Last of Us fans may have to thank actress Megan Mullally (Nick Offerman’s wife) for his heartfelt participation in the third episode of the series. Named after Linda Ronstadt’s song from the 70s, “Long, Long Time” shows Offerman in the extremely passionate, sensitive role of Bill, a more-than-ready survivor of the Cordyceps fungus. Offerman praised his wife’s attitude in a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel for his late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live. While discussing the script of the episode, which was written by Craig Mason (Chernobyl), he said that Mason “seems to know what he was doing.” Even though he valued Mason’s work, Offerman’s busy schedule made him think twice about this. It was his wife who told him to do it:

“I didn’t have time on the calendar to say yes to this job, and my incredible goddess of a wife read (the script) and she said, ‘You’re going to Calgary, buddy. You’re gonna have fun, you have to do this.’”

All that is left is their bones and a few pieces of clothing.

Bill, during the episode, meets Frank, who is caught by one of his traps. They fall in love after a while, spending almost 20 years together. Frank eventually becomes ill, and isn’t able to live the active lifestyle he had during his decades with Bill. Without giving too much away, Bill’s arc is incredible, and Offerman’s performance is awe-inspiring.

Offerman and Mullally have been married since September 20th, 2003, coincidentally just six days before the date of the outbreak in The Last of Us. Maybe Offerman’s participation and Mullally’s recommendation were meant to be…
