A Disturbance in the Force is coming to cinemas for a very limited run of approximately fifteen cinemas for one night only. Although most of the venues are in the USA, one theatre in the UK is hosting the film. The documentary takes an in-depth look at the making of The Star Wars Holiday Special, and how we went from the highs of Star Wars: Episode V - A New Hope, to two hours of wookies grunting at each other. The Star Wars Holiday Special was aired once in 1978 on CBS and was never released. It was so bad that George Lucas wanted all copies of it destroyed.

A Disturbance in the Force is helmed by super fans Kevin Smith and Weird Al Yankovich and stars Bruce Vilanch, who wrote on the doomed project. It examines how Star Wars fever gripped the world in the late 70s, and how everything went so badly that Carrie Fisher ended up singing in her space buns.

The documentary is directed by Steve Kozak and Jeremy Coon. Coon is best known for Napoleon Dynamite, and with Kevin Smith in front of the mike, expect a humorous dissection of the biggest car crash in the Star Wars Universe. Additionally, Kyle Newman, Producer of Raiders! (a documentary about three kids recreating Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, shot for shot) is on the team.

The dates and venues are available here. A must-see for any Star Wars fan!
