Ubisoft Shows Off Three Key Features Of 'Star Wars: Outlaws' In A New Preview
Self-described software stan and x.com user KAMI (@Okami13_) recently revealed some key information on his profile about the upcoming open-world Star Wars game, Star Wars Outlaws, slated for release later this year. According to KAMI, the three core gameplay experiences that players can expect include: dense cities bustling with activity, vast stunning open environments, and exploring space on Kay’s ship, The Trailblazer. Other key facts:
The Main Character: You will be playing an original Star Wars character, Kay, who is a female scoundrel operating within the criminal underworld attempting a grand heist.
Timeline: The events of the game are set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (approximately 3-4 ABY), during a period that has been mostly unexplored in Canon.
Locations: Original areas will be explored by Kay Vess, as well as famous Star Wars locations such as Tatooine, Akiva (Aftermath), and Kijimi (The Rise of Skywalker). Based on the trailer, Kay will be operating primarily in the “underworld” of the Star Wars universe, although it also shows her flying through the middle of a heated space battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
Jabba The Hutt: Jabba will be a “quest-giver” for Kay, who is not above stealing, interacting with criminals, or conning people, just the type of people Jabba surrounds himself with, of course.
Combat: Combat scenes seem inspired by one of Ubisoft’s previous games, Tom Clancy’s The Division, combining RPG-style customization with tactical action combat. Also, Kay will not have Force powers and, as such, will be reliant on her commando droid, ND-5, and her cute alien companion, Nix, to survive.
Faction System: Kay will be doing quests for the various criminal syndicates to increase her reputation among the different factions.

The setting opens up several possibilities for bringing Kay into contact with all kinds of classic Star Wars characters and factions, as well as opportunities for reintroducing some Legends characters into Canon in a small way. The game’s story could be a vehicle for revisiting Crimson Dawn and Qi'ra (Solo: A Star Wars Story), The Pykes (The Clone Wars, Solo, The Book of Boba Fett), and several other criminal organizations introduced into Star Wars lore over the years. Given the timeline, the underworld setting, and the fact that The Clone Wars reintroduced the Falleen species and the Crimson Reign comics brought Prince Xixor (Shadows of the Empire) into canon, it could be within the realm of possibility that the game writers could bring Xixor into the game.
The game is expected to be released in the latter part of 2024 and will be available on the Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5. What characters and locations would you like to see featured in the game?
