Trailer For New 'Doctor Who' Is Released
The official trailer for season fourteen of Doctor Who has dropped, and as always Russell T. Davies has provided more questions than answers. Jinks Monsoon’s as yet unnamed character is front and centre. According to IMDb she’s appearing in episode, two, The Devil’s Chord. This is rumored to be Doctor Who’s first ever musical episode.
There are plenty of shots of UNIT’s headquarters, including Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Bonnie Langford. Fingers crossed they have significant screen time after doing such an excellent job in the specials. We also get another look at the hooded figure who left Doctor’s assistant, Ruby on the doorstep of the church as a baby. Since Millie Gibson’s guardianship of the TARDIS is going to be short-lived, it’s pretty clear that this mystery will be looked into this season.
RELATED:
The trailer shows Regency era (probably) Britain, a time period previously visited by the First, the Eleventh and the Twelfth Doctors. All three visited the Frost Fair. Although we’ve got a shot of a Bridgerton style ballroom, it wouldn’t be right if Ncuti Gatwa didn’t also make a trip to the frozen River Thames.
It’s obvious the show has used it’s Disney money to improve production quality. There’s frequent costume changes for Ncuti Gatwa, rather than a signature outfit. The special effects have been taken up a notch and the inside of the TARDIS looks great.
The general theme of the trailer (David Bowie’s Changes and the death of the butterfly) seems to be whether time travel does more harm than good. There’s also a lot of shots of the TARDIS, so this potentially could also relate to the malfunction or the duplication that happened in the specials.
Whovians are going to be full of theories about season fourteen until May 11th, 2024, when the first episode drops on BBC iPlayer/BBC One and Disney+. There’s not long to wait!
