The Final Destination movies have always been near and dear to my heart. They’re fun, gruesome, and the only horror series that my wife likes as much as I do. After the fifth film came out in 2011, it looked like we’d never get another one. Most series don’t get another installment thirteen years after the last one.

However, given the increase in remakes and “legacy sequels” we’re slowly getting more of those.

In any case, when a sixth one, Final Destination: Bloodlines, was announced, it excited fans of the series. We’d get to see Death come after a group that had broken its design again. More visions, more kills, and more fun. To top it all off, we just received a great piece of news.

The film will be released in theaters instead of direct to Max as originally announced. The best part, though, is that it won’t just be in regular theaters, but it will hit IMAX theaters as well. This is an exciting update. If the film is getting an IMAX release, that means that there are, hopefully, aspects of the film that warrant it. It implies that the kills and the bloody accidents that start the film will be as loud and over-the-top as we’re all hoping.

The creator of the series, Jeffrey Reddick, said this about the film in an interview with Collider:

“This film doesn't just kind of add another layer. Usually there's a new layer every film where it's like, ‘Oh, well, this can save you or this can save you.’ This film dives into the film in such a unique way that it attacks it from a different angle so you don't feel like, ‘Oh, there's an amazing setup and then there's going to be one wrinkle that can potentially save you all that you have to kind of make a moral choice about or do to solve it.’ There's an expansion of the universe that – I'm being so careful.”
