In an email to its members, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) negotiating team updated members on their negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). In a post on X, Phillip Iscove stated “Negotiations update from the WGA shows just how broken and dysfunctional the AMPTP is. They must seriously negotiate or individual studios need to break away and make a deal. In short, we must stay united and not let them use disinformation to weaken our resolve.”

In the update, the team notes that in the 130 days since the WGA strike began, the AMPTP has only offered one proposal to the WGA, on August 11th.  The companies have not moved off of that proposal even though the WGA countered with its own proposal on August 15th. Despite having no movement from the AMPTP the update notes that in individual conversations with legacy studio executives, they have heard both a desire and willingness to negotiate an agreement that would address issues raised by the writers guild.

The update goes on to state: “The companies know the truth: they must negotiate if they want to end the strike. They may not like it-they may try to obscure it- but they know it. While they wrestle with that fact and with each other, they will continue attempting to get the writers to settle for less than what we need and deserve, and encourage us to negotiate with ourselves. But we are not going to do that.”

It ends by stating that the team will continue to be on the picket lines and provide updates again when there is anything significant to report.
