The ‘Star Wars’ Highlights From Lucasfilm Publishing's NYCC Panel

The Lucasfilm Publishing Panel at NY York Comic Con occurred on October 15. Hosted by Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain, authors Megan Crouse, Claudia Gray, Marc Guggenheim, E.K. Johnston, John Jackson Miller, Greg Pak, Ethan Saks, Charles Soule, Rosemary Soule, and Alyssa Wong were present to talk about their current and upcoming projects.

Here are the highlights:

Comics

Mace Windu (Miniseries)

The Jedi Order's "second in command" will get his own Marvel miniseries, starting on January 24, to kick off the 25th anniversary of the release of The Phantom Menace. The series will be written by Marc Bernardin, with Mateus Manhanini as the cover artist, at least for the first issue.

Thrawn Alliances (Miniseries)

The Chiss Grand Admiral just returned to the Star Wars galaxy in the final episode of Ahsoka, but fans won't have to wait too long until they can enjoy new visuals of the Empire's strategic mastermind. Timothy Zahn's second book of his canon Thrawn trilogy will be adapted into a Marvel miniseries, with the first issue also coming out on January 24. Zahn will adapt his novel together with Jody Houser.

Jango Fett (Miniseries)

The ongoing Bounty Hunters series will end with issue 42 in January, but this doesn't mean there will be a shortage of new guns-for-hire stories, as March will see the release of issue one of a Jango Fett miniseries. As with Bounty Hunters, Ethan Stack will provide the story, while Leinil Francis Yu will do the cover for the first issue.

Hyperspace Stories

Dark Horse Comics will start a new line of graphic novels with the release of Hyperspace Stories: Qui-Gon in the spring of 2024, followed by issue two focusing on his padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi titled Hyperspace Stories: Obi-Wan. The Qui-Gon issue will be written by George Mann and illustrated by Andrea Mutti, while the Obi-Wan issue will be written by Cecil Castelucci with art by Lucas Marangon.

The High Republic Comic Covers

With Lucasfilm's massive publishing program, The High Republic, moving into Phase III, the NYCC panel revealed the covers for Shadows of Starlight issue #4 and The High Republic #3. Charles Soule will be the writer for Shadows of Starlight, and Cavan Scott will continue to steer the story of the main The High Republic line.

Both comics will be released in January.

February will see the release of issue #3 of The High Republic Adventures, the series written by Daniel José Older.

Tales From The Death Star

Just in Time for the spooky Halloween season, Dark Horse Comics will release a one-shot called Tales from the Death Star on October 17, chronicling all kinds of horrors on the Empire's ultimate weapon.

Books

Things were a bit lighter on the book side, but there were still some exciting announcements:

The High Republic: The Lightsaber Collection

Coming on April 30 from Inside Edition, this book depicts and describes the beautifully crafted hilts of the primary weapons of the Jedi when they were in their prime.

Even before that, the replica of Stellan Gios's lightsaber will be available at shopDisney, Disneyland, and Walt Disney Worlds as a limited edition of just 5000 pieces.

The High Republic: Encyclopedia

The panel included the presentation of a few new pages from the book that will be released on December 6, including those for Maz Kanata, Dexter Jettster, and Porter Engle, aka the Blade of Bardotta.

Return Of The Jedi: A Visual Archive

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the OT movie, Inside Edition will release this new reference book written by Kelly Knox, Clayton Sandell, and S.T. Bende with a cover by Ise Ananphada.

Star Wars: Dad Jokes

To end on a lighter note, Kelly Knox collected all kinds of good and bad dad jokes and puns around Darth Vader and his rebellious kids and got Johnny Sampson to do the illustrations. The book will come out on April 2, 2024.
