'The Sims 5' Looks To Be Getting Some Form Of Multiplayer

One of the best-selling video game franchises of all time is The Sims. Over the twenty-odd years and the three sequels, the games have grown to develop a strong fan community that loves to spend hours and hours designing homes and people with the aid of a dedicated mod community and numerous extra packs for purchase.
While The Sims 4 has recently released their latest expansion, and the developers have said they have no plans to stop work on the game, The Sims 5 is in development. According to a recent interview, the developers are looking into including multiplayer in some format.

Lyndsay Pearson, Vice President of Franchise Creative, sat down with Radio Times’ One More Life to talk about The Sims 5, currently called Project Rene. Pearson told Radio Times they are exploring options for introducing multiplayer into the traditionally single-player franchise. It’s undoubtedly something fans have pondered and even wanted for some time, but the challenge remains how to implement it.
“But literally, how do you and your friends want to do some play together….we've talked about, like, trivia games to fighting games to racing games, playing together and social can mean so many things,” Pearson said. She goes on to say they look to Animal Crossing as inspiration, “we've seen throughout the last few years of Animal Crossing, people inventing ways to play together that the game doesn't specifically support, but they've made up scavenger hunts or whatever, which is amazing.”
While the earliest estimates for a release date are fall of 2024, the more likely release date for the fifth generation of The Sims franchise would be 2025. In the meantime, EA will continue to develop new additions to the ever-growing library for The Sims 4.
