The Russo Brothers, who directed some of the most well-received entries in the MCU to date, have opened talks with Marvel to return to the franchise as directors once again. The duo, who directed several high-earning entries in the MCU such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, may return to direct the planned fifth and sixth Avengers films at the behest of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

The fifth entry in the Avengers series, originally tentatively titled The Kang Dynasty (expected in 2026) was originally focused on the villain, Kang, who was introduced in the Loki D+ series and featured in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania.  However, since Kang actor Jonathan Majors’ conviction on assault and harassment charges last December, Marvel has reportedly decided to shift the focus of the fifth Avengers film in some as-yet-determined manner. The sixth Avengers film, tentatively titled Secret Wars (expected in 2027), will adapt the Marvel comics storyline of the same name.

Outside the MCU, the Russo Brothers previously directed several popular television series and, since their involvement with Marvel, directed hits such as best picture-winner, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and several smaller films for streaming services such as Apple, Amazon, and Netflix.
