The President of DC Films Was Allegedly On the Brink Of Quitting After 'Batgirl' Was Cancelled
Rumors began to swirl following the decision to cancel the release of Batgirl. According to Hollywood Reporter, DC Films president Walter Hamada was seriously considering leaving the position due to the cancellation of Batgirl. Ultimately, it is reported that he has agreed to stay on with the studio at least until the October 21 release of Black Adam.
It appears that Hamada was upset over not being consulted about the cancellation of Batgirl and how he was not informed of the decision until he was at a test screening of Black Adam. While it is rumored that he seriously considered leaving his role at DC Films that decision has been put on hold for the time being. Currently, Hamada is under contract until 2023.
Warner Brothers Discovery CEO David Zaslav has made it clear that he wants to take DC films in a different direction. Zaslav has stated that he wants DC movies to follow a ten-year plan, similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Things at DC Films are very much in flux considering that it also has been announced that the streaming service HBO Max will also be merging with Discovery+ in 2023.
