Gwendoline Christie Would Love To Return As Captain Phasma In Another 'Star Wars' Project

Since Captain Phasma was introduced in The Force Awakens, the mysterious First Order commander has become a fan favorite. Played by Gwendoline Christie, Captain Phasma’s demise at the hands of Finn in The Last Jedi has left fans wanting more exploration into the chrome-armored Stormtrooper.

Recently, Gwendoline Christie said she is interested in returning as Captain Phasma while talking to Empire magazine. Christie was asked if she would be interested in returning in the role or if the comics (possibly referring to the Star Wars: Phasma miniseries) would be adapted.

“I haven’t read the comics but, I mean, it’s Star Wars! I would absolutely love that,” she replied. “There was a template for a character that people got really excited about. It would be smashing if they felt that it was worthwhile to explore, along with some fabulous action.”

This isn't the first time Gwendoline Christie expressed interest in exploring Captain Phasma further. In early 2018, talking to The Times, Christie spoke about her character’s future. “In truth, I don’t know. And that scares and upsets me because I really want to see this character explored. I’m actually very invested in the character now.”

“And that’s genuine. That’s not just chat. It has opened up a chain of stories and events in my mind about who Phasma is,” she continued.

She isn’t alone either. Last year, Delilah S. Dawson who wrote the novel Phasma, used the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett to promote her book and tease about a pitch she’d make. “I have a pitch ready to go if the powers that be want the rest of Phasma's story after she fell through that fiery hole while fighting Finn,” she wrote.

While there doesn’t seem to be any word if Dawson made the pitch, she did tweet in reaction to Christie’s interest in playing Phasma again. “Helping write Phasma for TV would be an absolute dream come true,” she tweeted.

Death is never final in the Star Wars galaxy as seen in the return of Qui-Gon Jinn in the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Cassian Andor is also returning in his own series, Andor, on September 21 on Disney+. Here’s hoping that Gwendoline Christie’s wish to return as Captain Phasma is just the right Jedi mind trick to convince the powers that be.
