The Yakuza games have recently found popularity in the West. The most recent installment, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, is one of the best-selling games in the franchise, as it digitally sold and physically shipped one million copies the first week after lunch. To capitalize on the popularity of the games, a show based loosely around the first game was announced. There will be six episodes, released in two batches. The first trailer for the show was just released, and fans should be excited.

We see the various events from the first game being played out in the trailer. Someone stole the 10 billion yen from the Omi Alliance, and someone has to pay. We see the main protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, and his oath brother, Akira Nishikiyama, who is the show's main antagonist. We get a glimpse of Kamurocho and the various fights in the show, including a brief glimpse at Shimano. Goro Majima, a fan-favorite character, debuted in the trailer and even uttered his famous “Kiryu-chan” line. They did a great job bringing him to life. We also saw a glance of Haruka. If the trailer is anything to go on, the show will not hold back on the violence.

As always with any video game show adaptation, I am cautiously optimistic. The show looks great so far, and I cannot wait to see it when it releases its first batch of episodes on October 24th on Amazon Prime.
