Blizzard Hasn't Given Up On 'Starcraft', Reportedly Still Trying To Make A 'Starcraft' Shooter

Remember Starcraft? If you’re not in the esports sphere of influence, you probably have no idea what I’m talking about or are having a nostalgic moment right now. Outside of the IPs of Overwatch and Diablo, Blizzard also used to make Real Time Strategy (RTS) games, two of them being the Warcraft and Starcraft series.
About twenty years ago, Blizzard tried to expand beyond the Starcraft series of strategy games and bring it into the realm of shooters. They developed and promoted a game called Starcraft: Ghost that would put players in the perspective of a ghost unit, one of the special units for the Terran faction of Starcraft that could turn invisible, snipe from a safe distance, and call in nuclear strikes. Unfortunately, it ultimately went nowhere and never came out. They tried again about ten years ago with something called Ares, which was supposedly a Starcraft take on Battlefield. That, too, didn’t go anywhere.

But the third time’s the charm! According to a new book by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Blizzard is trying, once again, to bring a shooter to the Starcraft franchise. In his discussion of the book on IGN’s Unlocked podcast, he included this little tidbit about a third Starcraft shooter attempt because he said it went to show that Blizzard cannot quit Starcraft. It’s in their blood. Also, according to what Schreier knows, Dan Hay, former executive producer of the Far Cry series, is helming the project. Hay joined Blizzard in 2022.
There are no details at all, and IGN speculated that perhaps there was more to Phil Spencer wearing the Starcraft t-shirt at TGS beyond the series coming to GamePass, but it has not been confirmed nor denied by Blizzard either.
