Insomniac Games’ Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has finally arrived, taking fans by storm. Fair warning: plot spoilers are ahead! Following the conclusion of the game where Peter Parker takes a break from the vigilante duties and the focus shifts primarily to Miles Morales on that front, assumptions could be made regarding who the main Spider vigilante is from now on. In an interview with Gizmodo, advanced writer Brittney Morris and narrative director Ben Arfmann discuss the game and its plot, leaving no room to question who the main Spider-Man is now.

Morris explained her perspective of Miles and his character arc, “To me, it shows a great deal of evolution from Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life. By the end, we had Miles carrying the burden of saving the city.” She wrapped up the statement, “That’s what’s been so cool about writing a story about two Spider-Men: they’re both strong, and one of them can be strong when the other is not. By the end, Miles is more confident and he’s like, “Yeah, I got this. How much worse can things get after what we just went through?”

Arfmann continued, explaining that “the idea of a two Spider-Man story was always really essential to this game.” The narrative director broke down the passing-of-the-torch moment in the game a bit more, “The way that Miles intuits exactly what Pete is thinking and stops him from stumbling through trying to hand over the mask. Miles going, “You know I got this, bro,” it’s such a great moment between the two of them.” He wrapped up the statement, touching on the game development side of the story, “...it felt like such a natural conclusion; I’m not sure when specifically we decided to do that, but it always felt like the only way the game could end.”

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was released on October 20, 2023. This action-adventure game is in a single-player format. It is exclusive to the PS5, the Standard Edition costing $69.99. As the game is a recent release, there is no news regarding a future PC port yet.
