Social media went wild on Monday as the first official trailer for The Garfield Movie, starring Chris Pratt, dropped. The movie's official website posted the trailer to X with the caption, “Monday just got a whole lot better - watch the #GarfieldMovie trailer now. Coming soon exclusively to movie theaters.” Fandango, Variety, People, and Chris Pratt himself reposted the adorable first look at everyone’s favorite feline lasagna aficionado.

The trailer opens with Garfield as a scared, hungry kitten outside in a rainstorm and Jon looking lonely as he dines on a whole pizza at an Italian restaurant. Garfield smells the pizza and wanders over to the window before Jon. One can tell that it is love at first sight…Garfield downs the pie in one gulp. Oh, and he loves Jon too. Some more eating of lasagna, pizza, spaghetti, and meatballs occurs, and then the scene cuts to adult Garfield with Odie. Pratt’s signature voice is the next thing the viewer hears as Garfield explains that is how he adopted Jon while Odie sticks his tongue out.

The next scene flashes a truly mortified Garfield looking down at the terrifying barrel of the most unthinkable torture one can inflict on a small animal. That’s right, a bath. Jon suits up in the necessary protective gear – boots, long gloves, and a helmet with a face shield.  The bathtub is full of water with the rubber ducky on the side and a suds-covered Garfield full of objections. He is then toweled off, followed by a proper hairdryer blowout. Odie seems so shocked by the fluffed feline that he drops his tennis ball with a squeak. Jon makes it up to him; it’s hard to hold a grudge when presented with lasagna covered in cheese.

Pratt is not the only Avengers alum on this project.  Samuel L. Jackson plays Garfield’s estranged father, Vic. In the next scene, Garfield introduces him to Odie. Vic asks if he’s ever jumped a train and talks him and Odie into taking a ride; he tells Garfield they are at his stop and then boots him off the moving train. The next scene shows them at home foraging in the fridge together. The trailer ends with a unique invitation. Audiences with kitties who have big screen personalities can send in videos of them to The Garfield Movie Campaign. Dogs are welcome, too. The film is expected to hit theaters this summer.
