Borderlands is the latest in the trend of video games being adapted for the big screen. The movie is being produced by the same team who found previous success with the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. The movie will be released under the Lionsgate banner on August 9. The studio released an action-packed trailer that revealed the tone and the cast of the movie.

Cate Blanchett plays the short-tempered protagonist Lilith. Jamie Lee Curtis steps into the role of the scientist Dr. Tannis. Kevin Hart joins the last as the mercenary Roland while Jack Black lends his voice to the robot mascot Claptrap. Finally, Ariana Greenblatt takes on the role of demolitionist Tiny Tina, and Florian Martineau completes the cast as Tina’s Enforcer King. The movie follows Lillith on her adventure to uncover a top-secret vault filled with loot. To access the vault, the team will have to navigate a dangerous “dumpster fire of a planet.” The trailer features intense action shots with bright colors and optimistic rock music, setting a lighter tone for the movie. Fans of the games will be interested to see how the characters translate to the big screen when the movie is released.
