The First Official Trailer For 'Dune Part II' Has Dropped
There have been a few attempts at adapting Frank Herbert’s Dune, and each has its accolades, but they still seem to fall short of the magnitude and grandiosity that is the book, considered to be one of the must-reads of classic sci-fi. David Lynch tried it in the ’80s. There was a decent mini-series on the Sci-Fi Channel in the late ’90s with William Hurt and Alex Newman. One never even made it to film but is the subject of a documentary called Jodorowsky’s Dune. Now, it seems we may have a strong contender for the quintessential Dune adaptation in the two movies by Denis Villeneuve, with the second part due out this November.
Today, fans were treated to the first official trailer for the second part of Villeneuve’s Dune.
The trailer starts with Paul and Chani looking out over the desert, Paul describing what swimming is like. We’re then shown glimpses of characters and Fremen traveling through the desert, the Lady Jessica being carried in some sort of litter, with Frances Pugh’s Princess Irulan musing about the desert’s secrets. More images of other characters, including Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck, confirmed alive. Most of the trailer was dominated by Paul’s setup and attempt to ride a Sandworm, with sage advice from Javier Bardem’s Stilgar thrown in, warning against showboating. One of the last images shows Paul facing off against the silhouette of a bald-headed Harkonnen, preparing for a duel. That would be none other than Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha, the Baron’s nephew and heir, who is a renowned duelist and clever schemer.
Watch the thrilling conclusion this November 3.
