Two new photos of the sets being constructed for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie subtitled First Steps, have been released. The images reveal the construction of the team’s Excelsior launchpad, New York’s Times Square, and, potentially, Ben Grimm’s home. The sets, obscured while shooting to prevent leaks, are described as massive, with a 1960s retro-futuristic look, influenced by the fact that the film is set on an alternative Earth.

Director Matt Shakman (Wandavision) recently publicly commented on the tone that he hopes to convey in the film:

"This film] is more than just the visual aesthetics, the '60s to me is all about optimism. It’s about looking to the stars and dreaming about traveling into space. It’s about how with the right heart and the right mind, you can do anything — which is what the Fantastic Four is all about."

Shakman also commented on how this new Fantastic Four film, unlike the other films, will not feature an origin story:

"One of the things we decided early on was not to do an origin story. One of the ways we're making it our own thing is we're not telling the story of them going up and being changed, and starting our story [there]."

Leading the titular Fantastic Four cast are Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic) Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), Ebon-Moss Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing). Additional cast members include Ralph Ineson (Galactus), and Julia Garner (Silver Surfer), with Natasha Lyonne, John Malkovich, and Paul Walter Hauser appearing in as-yet-undisclosed roles. Prolific film composer Michael Giacchino, who has composed scores for other MCU films and even a Star Wars film to date, has been enlisted to score Fantastic Four: First Steps which is tentatively set to premiere on the big screen in July 2025.
