The Daniels Are Eyeing 2026 For The Release Of Their Next Movie
The indie movie scene’s dynamic duo who sat at the helm of the remarkably successful film Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), signed a deal with Universal in 2022 before Everything Everywhere was, literally, everywhere and swept the Oscars. The film won for best picture, director, and original screenplay. Universal recently announced a release date of June 12, 2026, for an untitled feature film that The Daniels will lead. The studio has not released any other film details at this time.
Kwan and Scheinert bring a unique resume to the table. These two have done music videos for DJ Snakes and Lil Jon. They also directed Swiss Army Man, a Sundance feature that stars Daniel Radcliff and Paul Dano. Additionally, the pair directed an episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The Hollywood Reporter sat down with the filmmakers shortly after signing with Universal to discuss the jump from independent filmmaking to studio life. The pair acknowledged the adjustment. Kwan said, “We love to chase things that could almost be a catastrophe,” while Scheinert commented, “We thrive on being told no, in moderation; I am nervous about having a budget that makes us not have those tough conversations.” Given the phenomenon that Everything Everywhere All at Once became with a $15 million budget, imagine what these creatives will do with studio backing.
