Thanks to previews for the upcoming The Battle of Jakku: Insurgency Rising #2, we now know that fan-favorite characters Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and Gallius Rax will be appearing and impacting the storyline being told in The Battle of Jakku maxi-series.

A 12-issue maxi-series set between the Battle of Endor and the eponymous Battle of Jakku, The Battle of Jakku series had initially seemed like it would feature many familiar characters with other pulls mostly from writer Alex Segura’s other Star Wars work, Poe Dameron: Free Fall, and the defunct mobile game Star Wars: Uprising.

The comic series' main enemy, repeatedly shown on comic covers and referred to as the “Defiant Imperial” in solicitations, looked to be Governor Adelhard of the Anoat Sector (the area of space The Empire Strikes Back takes place in), who was the main villain of Star Wars: Uprising.

However, it looks as though the series will truly be eclectic with its pulls of characters and content from this era of the canon. For those unaware, Rae Sloane is one of the oldest original canon characters of Star Wars, appearing in A New Dawn by author John Jackson Miller back in 2014. She has since appeared in multiple comics and books over the years, with the Aftermath Trilogy seeing her gain the rank of Grand Admiral. Gallius Rax, meanwhile, is the architect of the Empire’s destruction after Endor, Palpatine’s handpicked and prepared operative who set events in motion to cause the Battle of Jakku.

While Sloane has been visualized several times over the years, the appearance of Rax is a welcome surprise, as he has never been depicted in official artwork from Lucasfilm. While he appears in shadow for this issue, that will hopefully not be the case for too much longer. We eagerly await Issue #2 and will continue to keep an eye on the exciting series as it unfolds!
