'The Acolyte' Set To Premiere On Disney+ This Summer

Two live-action Star Wars series are slated to premiere this year on Disney+ (aside from the animated shows The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi): Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte.
And we now know that the latter will be the first to hit the small screens, with a premiere date this summer.
If last year's Ahsoka is any indication, the show could start airing in the second half of August.
Announced in May 2020, the series is set at the tail end of the High Republic era, just 50 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. The show's synopsis describes it as a mystery thriller where a former Padawan reunites with her Master to investigate a crime series. But what they discover is far more sinister and dangerous than the Jedi imagined.

Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) acts as the showrunner and director of the eight episodes and is also one of the writers and executive producers. The cast includes Amanda Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae (Squid Games) as a Jedi Master, Joonas Suotama (Chewbacca in the Sequel Trilogy and Solo) as the Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca and Rebecca Henderson as well as Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto and Carrie-Ann Moss in yet undisclosed roles.
The Acolyte will be the first project of Lucasfilm's massive multimedia endeavor, The High Republic, outside books and comics, and it will have a strong tie-in to the printed materials: Rebecca Henderson will portray Vernestra Rwoh, a Jedi who was introduced in Justina Ireland's novel A Test of Courage but has since appeared in several books and comics of The High Republic. A Mirialan with light green skin, blue eyes, and purple-black hair, she was only 15 when she was granted the rank of Jedi Knight. She used a purple lightsaber, which she had modified to also use as a whip. Born in 248 BBY, she will be roughly 200 years old at the start of The Acolyte.
While the attendees of last year's Celebration in Londo got a first glimpse of what the show will look like, a first full trailer can be expected in the coming months, probably on May 4th, to celebrate Star Wars Day.
