Taika Waititi Gives Fans An Update On His 'Star Wars' Movie
Popular film director Taika Waititi was recently asked for an update on the Star Wars film that he has been confirmed given by Lucasfilm to work on. While he responded that he is working on it, Star Wars appears to be on the back burner, as he has several other projects ahead of it and wants to take the time to craft a good film and not rush it.
Watiti is currently celebrating the release of his latest film, Next Goal Wins, which is about an American Samoa soccer team that infamously lost a FIFA match 31-0. The film was inspired by Jaiyah Saelua, the first transgender person to participate in a FIFA tournament as part of an American Samoa soccer team. He was critical to the team’s 2014 win against Tonga in a World Cup qualifying match.

"At the moment, I'm still developing something with them. Like me, they have a lot of projects going on. I think they're gonna push it until I finish these other projects," Waititi told ET. "I've got about four other scripts that I'm trying to finish. My thing is I want to take my time with that and get it right. I don't want to rush this movie."
In another recently published story, when asked about how much his film will feel like a Star Wars film to fans, Waititi stated, “It will be … dramatic pause… a Taika Waititi film.” He also jokingly added that the film is going to “piss people off.” Until more details are made available, one might look at some of his MCU Thor films, Thor 3: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), for clues as to how he might approach a franchise like Star Wars, which is also owned by Disney.
