Amazon Prime Video’s Spider-Noir series has generated a fair bit of buzz.  Nicolas Cage will be reprising his role as the 1930s-era vigilante, bringing the role into live-action.  Interesting new information about the series and some of its fiend details has recently come out.  According to Comic Book Movie, new character descriptors have been released, shedding some light on the potential direction for the film to take.

Cage’s Ben Reilly is described as “a retired superhero with the powers of Spider-Man who is too old and broken, both figuratively and literally, to suit up the way he used to.”  The P.I. intentionally takes lower-level cases to avoid the obligations of his alter ego’s activities.  His history is shown in the series, giving an idea for how episodes will be structured, “Through flashbacks, we find out about his past heroics, and past failures, that led him to this point.”

Yuri Watanabe is described as “a stage singer with unknown ties to crime organizations in New York City, including that of the mayor.”  This description lines up with actress Li Jun Li’s role.  The Sandman makes an appearance in the series as well.  Flint Marko is Watanabe’s hired muscle who inexplicably turns into the Sandman at times.  Marko will be a classic Jekyll/Hyde type of character, “When he switches between identities, he has no memories of what the alter ego did while in control.”

The mayor being referred to is Mayor Delgado, “a corrupt politician whose motivations and past are entirely unknown.” The description continues, “The character exists as a setup for future episodes, likely as the main villain.”  A character called Silvermane was also included, described as “an ageing crime boss whose plans to retire are thrown out the window after his mansion is burned down.”  This sets him up as another antagonist for the series.

Spider-Noir does not have a solid release window at this time.  When it is released, it will go to MGM+ for a domestic release first before moving on to Prime Video.  The series will be set in New York in the 1930s, following a private investigator and former vigilante as he “is forced to grapple with his past life as the city's one and only superhero,” according to the IMDb synopsis.
