John Travolta has recreated the iconic “Summer Nights” duet in tribute to late Grease co-star Olivia Newton-John for a T-Mobile Super Bowl commercial.

Joining Travolta for the recreation are Scrubs stars Zack Braff and Donald Faison, fitting an advertisement of T-Mobile’s services to the tune of Summer Nights. During the advert, Travolta also pulls off several dance moves and signature poses from the popular routine of the 1978 movie. There’s respect for the source with this advert in that all the words flow perfectly to the tune; it feels much like you’d expect a scene from a musical to feel.

In August 2022, following Newton-John’s death, Travolta posted to Instagram to honour his longtime friend. “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!”

Grease has always been a popular film, but in recent times that popularity has surged, helped somewhat by the announcement of Paramount+ prequel series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. Series creator Annabel Oakes said of the series, “Fans of the original should be happy. We call Grease the mothership, and we always are talking about how we have to pay homage and respect the mothership.”
