Disney+ Removes All 'Indiana Jones' Movies But 'Dial Of Destiny'

Indiana Jones

If one were to make a list of the most beloved characters of all time, Indiana Jones would certainly make the list. First debuting in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, he instantly became a cultural icon thanks to his instantly recognizable style, his Nazi-punching awesomeness, flawless performance by Harrison Ford, and the iconic score by the GOAT himself, John Williams. The film raked in almost 400 million on a twenty million dollar budget, 1.3 billion when adjusting for inflation. It received nine Oscar nominations (winning five), including Best Picture, and Jones received the number two spot on the American Film Institute’s list of top fifty heroes. After three sequels, it was put under the Disney umbrella after it acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, though it wasn’t until 2023 that we saw the release of the fourth and quite possibly final film: The Dial of Destiny.

Given that Indiana Jones was now part of Disney, all of the films were on the streaming service Disney+ for all to enjoy. That has suddenly changed. A few days ago, as of this writing, the licensing and distribution agreement that Disney had has expired, meaning that they can no longer host Spielberg’s film on their platform. This may be confusing, as Disney owns the character, but it doesn’t own the distribution rights to the original four films. Paramount does, and the agreement with them expired. Disney does own the IP, so they’re free to make whatever other Indiana Jones content they want and keep it on their platform, hence why Dial of Destiny remains.

Give it a few months before Disney buys Paramount and Indiana Jones is put back.
