Disneyland Cast Members have been threatening to strike for some time now, but today, they just accepted a new contract from Disney. This three-year contract gives cast members, as reported by Pirates and Princesses, “a new hourly minimum wage of $24. Wage increases will occur for others who are not set at the minimum wage. Over the next three years, many Cast Members will see a pay increase of $6.10.” Seniority increases, sick leave and improved attendance are also a part of the new contract. Everything listed here will come into effect once the ratification process is completed.

Disneyland has been having union issues since April, as the previous contract expired in June. Orange County, California is an expensive place to live, with Disneyland serving as one of its biggest employers. With this new contract, cast members are hoping to keep themselves out of the red, and live a comfortable life. Union issues continue to mount all over the world, with the Writers Guilds of America and SAG-AFTRA both authorizing strikes just last year. Hopefully, future issues can be sorted out before we get another strike, though in other cases, one might be unavoidable. Either way, we’ll be on hand to let you know what happens.
