'Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic' Remake Faces Indefinite Delays During Studio Restructuring
Probably the most anticipated game to be announced in the past year or two was the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). The original game was released in 2003 to universal acclaim, and it is often seen at the top of the lists of best Star Wars games of all time. With its fantastic story, fascinating characters, and pitch-perfect writing, it has been beloved by just about everyone who has played it in the last twenty years.
Several months ago, a buggy version was released for the Nintendo Switch, and everyone is looking forward to the upcoming remake. Details on it were pretty scarce, but on top of new, state-of-the-art graphics, there were rumors swirling that there would be new missions, new planets, and even an updated combat system. Now, all of that is on hold.

Aspyr Media, the company in charge of the remake, has paused the development of the game indefinitely, going so far as to fire the game’s design and art directors. While nothing concrete has been made public as to why this has happened, we have been told that Aspyr is looking for different contracts and more development opportunities. What that means is anyone’s guess. Maybe the developers did not feel like they were making a good enough product. As such, they decided to go in a new direction to give us the best game that they possibly could.
Now, “indefinitely” technically does not mean “never” but KOTOR 3 was put on hold indefinitely as well. It seems the only way we will get to play it is if some crazed billionaire goes to the developers and says “Money is no object. Just make the game.” Buzzwords like “new contracts” and “development opportunities” often do not bode well for the future of a game.
Previously, there were rumors that we could see the game as early as late 2023 to mid-2024. However, that isn't going to happen unless Aspyr jumps into these “new contracts” immediately. We might never see the game, which would be devastating. Fans have been hyped for this game since the moment it was announced, and it is disheartening to know that there is the possibility that they will never get to play it at all.
