Paramount+ announced that they are cancelling four shows and removing them from the streaming service. The shows are Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, and Queen of the Universe. In a statement, Paramount+ said, “We want to extend our thanks to our tremendously talented cast and crew and our producing partners for their passionate work and dedication on these programs, and we wish them all the best on their future endeavors.” According to Variety, the decision to remove these shows from the streaming service was decided by the numbers. However, no numbers were released. It comes after similar moves at Max, Disney+, and Hulu. All four shows have the potential to be shopped to other outlets.

The cancellation of Star Trek: Prodigy was a particular surprise. It was generally well received, with a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a second season was ordered by Paramount+ in 2021. Also, a big part of Paramount’s marketing for their streaming service has been that it is the home of all things Star Trek. That will no longer be the case if Prodigy moves to another streamer or network. Prodigy was also shown on Nickelodeon but will not be broadcast there either.
