"Spiritual Sequel" To Cult Classic 'Street Trash' Coming Soon!
A spiritual successor to the cult 80s horror film Street Trash is releasing soon on digital storefronts.
The original Street Trash released in 1987, with a story set in Brooklyn, New York City, focused on the fallout from a liquor store owner selling years-old alcohol to homeless people. Unbeknownst to the owner, the drink is toxic and causes those who drink it to melt away, a deeply gruesome fate. The film was a notorious body horror black comedy film in its time and was directed by J. Michael Muro, credited as Jim Muro.
The new spiritual sequel to Street Trash is now set in Cape Town, South Africa, and will focus on the government taking awful measures to solve their country’s homeless crisis by literally liquidating the homeless population. Speaking with Bloody Disgusting, the new film’s director, Ryan Kruger, spoke about his love for the original film and how he is excited to bring the same sort of story to a new audience.
Speaking further, Kruger emphasized that while this new film will feature elements core to the original Street Trash, there will also be a lot of focus on the diverse characters who populate the film. In addition to directing, Kruger stars in the picture alongside Sean Cameron Michael, Donna Cormack-Thomson, Joe Vaz, Lloyd Martinez Newkirk, Shuraigh Meyer, Gary Green, and Warrick Grier.
Street Trash releases November 19th, 2024.
