Sony is upping their game (console, that is). The company has just announced their new wireless controller for the PlayStation 5. At its core, it's a haptic controller; the game still "interacts" with its user, but since the goal of every company on the forefront of their industry has always been innovation, their thought process was “why not?” Xbox has Elite, SCUF continues to build customized controllers, why shouldn't they have their own new toy? Touted as "the first-ever high-performance, ultra-customizable controller," this release comes with Sony’s promise of more immersive gameplay.

The technology of the original DualSense is also contained within Edge. Though their controllers previously merely rumbled with each gunshot, the DualSense Edge will give the player a first-hand sensation of a gun's recoil. Since this is version 2.0, a handgun's recoil may provide a stronger kick. The push and pull of the controller also integrates with the particular gear a character is lugging around, so searching for items inside a bag will actually feel like searching for something inside a bag.

Controller settings have also been addressed; DualSense Edge technology is capable of saving all a gamer's settings in unique profiles that can easily be switched. A gamer could be playing Alba: A Wildlife Adventure one moment and switch to Ratchett & Clank: Rift Apart the next, and the controller will cater to its owner's every whim.

The video announcement showed the controller in silhouette, but the PlayStation controller’s signature shape is unmistakable. One thing that stands out is a feature that will make old-school PlayStation gamers envious: the stick modules are replaceable. Yes, the knobs that control the character on the screen. And yes, replacements will be sold separately.

There are additional features, but for now, we won’t get ahead of ourselves. The Edge may actually perform as advertised and then some, but until this gadget reaches gamers' hands, we'll just have to wonder why Sony named their new controller after their competitor's internet browser.
