Despite several delays and setbacks, the filming of Marvel’s Thunderbolts film is moving once again. Actor Sebastian Stan recently shared some details in an interview with Variety when asked. Stan also expressed excitement at the project moving forward:

"I’m excited. I’m going to go back basically in a month or so. I’ve missed it. It’s a great cast," the actor tells the trade. "The batting average is so high that it’s difficult to always land everything right away. It’s always been a great experience. With this one in particular, I think there’s a lot of good things.”

Sebastian Stan portrayed Bucky Barnes (aka “The Winter Soldier”) in the first three Captain America films, and joined the fight against Thanos in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. His character was last seen in The Falcon and Winter Soldier D+ series with Anthony Mackie’s Falcon. In Thunderbolts, he will join a group of other superheroes, including Black Widow, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, played by Stranger Things alum David Harbour, and John Walker/US Agent, played by Wyatt Russell, whose character was first introduced in The Falcon and Winter Soldier. Harrison Ford is also expected to join the MCU by stepping in as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross as a replacement for the late William Hurt, who previously portrayed the character.

The tentative synopsis provided by IMDb states “A group of supervillains are recruited to go on missions for the government.” The film is being written by Eric Pearson and Lee Sung Jin and directed by Jake Schreier. The current expected release date for the film is next year in July 2025.
