Samuel Jackson Defends Disney Franchises Against Friend Quentin Tarantino

Earlier in November, Samuel L. Jackson had to come to the defense of Disney’s Marvel Studios after comments that longtime colleague Quentin Tarantino made comments regarding the franchise. Jackson had to respond to Tarantino’s claim that Marvel actors aren’t real movie stars.
On the podcast 2 Bears, 1 Cave, the award-winning director Quentin Tarantino claimed that actors who play characters in the MCU are not real movie stars.
“Part of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood is… you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they’re not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think that’s been said a zillion times…but it’s like you know, it’s these franchise characters that become a star.”

This is not the first time Tarantino has made somewhat harsh comments about the entertainment industry. Many have not taken these recent comments lightly, with actors like Simu Liu speaking out against Tarantino. Then on The View, fellow Marvel character Samuel Jackson also responded to Tarantino’s comments. In the MCU, Jackson plays S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury.
On The View, Jackson stated,
“Okay well it takes an actor to be those particular characters. So, it’s not a big controversy for me to know that, well, apparently these actors are movie stars. You know, Chadwick Boseman IS Black Panther. You can’t refute that. And he’s a movie star.”
Despite the disagreement between Tarantino and Jackson, Jackson has appeared in many Tarantino films, such as Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight. However, it is unlikely that this will have any lasting impact on their relationship, nor will it affect the success that the MCU continues to enjoy.
