History is often taught in generalities, which is understandable given the timeframe in which history is taught within a school year. As a result, a lot of the finer details get lost in the overarching story. When the dust settles from the turmoil surrounding everything Warner Bros., Discovery, and the DCEU, it will likely be given the same treatment as a history lesson, and the details that make up the larger narrative will be left out. The departure of Patty Jenkins from Wonder Woman 3 is just such an instance.

Late Monday night, reports started circulating among entertainment sites that the Wonder Woman director and reported director of the still uncertain Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has left DC and the helm of the third installment of the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman movies. This comes to light after it was reported earlier that DC was not going to move forward with the third movie.

According to TheWrap, Jenkins had presented her treatment of the third movie to CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, but they rejected it. Jenkins reportedly refused to pitch another story and told the Warner Bros. leaders that they didn’t understand the character or how a story arc works. Furthermore, in an email pertaining to the matter, Patty Jenkins sent an email to De Luca that ended with a Wikipedia definition of “character arc.” They offered her a chance to pitch something else, but she believed in her vision, and if they didn’t want her treatment, she would work on her other film.

This all comes as James Gunn and Peter Safran were tagged to helm the DCEU, the DC version of Kevin Feige. According to TheWrap’s story, Gunn and Safran had nothing to do with the decision De Luca and Abdy made, but they also agreed with their decision.

This is the latest in a series of industry headlines surrounding Warner Bros. and the Discovery merger. It also comes as reports are stating that Gunn and Safran are planning a significant reboot of the DC films, which has led to speculation that the return of Henry Cavill as Superman is now uncertain.

If Jenkins’ comments are indeed accurate, and there’s no reconciliation over the departure, the “other film” she could work on could be the enigmatic Rogue Squadron, whose fate has been an interesting target of speculation among fans.
