SAG-AFTRA Negotiations Headed In Right Direction After AI Discussions
A deal could soon be made between SAG-AFTRA and Hollywood studios, as sources say that talks are heading in the right direction. The negotiations of October 31 dealt with the issues regarding AI within the TV and film industry and the threat that lingers around jobs for actors if studios can recreate likenesses freely.
A video sent out on Tuesday by chief negotiator for SAG-AFTRA, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, reassured their members that the committee “will keep the pressure on” until a fair deal is secure. “We’ve got to keep on pushing because there are really important pieces of this agreement that are not there yet and they have to come across. AI, for example, has to be right. This deal cannot be done without a fair deal on AI.”

There’s a lot of optimism that a deal can be reached soon, with both studio-side sources and actors saying they believe it could happen within the next week. Such optimism is a drastic change from before Tuesday’s session, where the negotiating committee stated to its members that a new deal, and thus an end to the strike, is not close to happening. It was said that, though “talks over the past week have been productive, we remain far apart on key issues.”
