Rosario Dawson has been speaking on the Dagobah Dispatch podcast with Ahsoka co-stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Natasha Liu Bordizzo, talking about the legacy of these characters who had their start in the animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels.

“We literally religiously watch these episodes over and over again as homework, which is like the easiest and the best homework in the world,” Dawson says about capturing the spirit of these characters in live action. For Ahsoka, Ashley Eckstein’s performance within the animated series is more than just having provided a voice, Dawson notes. “The inflection of the voice and the heart and the love and just the commitment over so many years – I mean, she’s a true believer. And I think that heart just lives on in this story.”

Dawson and Eckstein have become friends since Dawson first portrayed the Togrutan Jedi in season two of The Mandalorian. Dawson notes that when Eckstein visited the set of Ahsoka, the wonder at seeing this character in live-action always appears. The same with Dave Filioni, who is helming this live-action series. “To have [Eckstein’s] energy there and her blessing on this show is everything, because she’s so much a part of this show.”

Bordizzo and Winstead, portraying Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla respectively, have also taken to heart the legacy that has been left to them. Seeing these characters in live-action is likely to leave fans with the same wonder that appears in the eyes of Eckstein and Filoni when Ahsoka premieres on Disney+ sometime this August.
