‘The Princess Diaries 3’ Reportedly In The Works
Since the release of The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement in 2004, fans have been pushing for another sequel. Eighteen years later, we finally have some good news! The Princess Diaries 3 has reportedly been green-lit.
Aadrita Mukerji (Reacher, Supergirl) has signed on to pen the script, and Debra Martin Chase, producer of the first two films, is back onboard. The original films were based on the best-selling book series by Meg Cabot, so it is possible that Mukerji may look to the source material for inspiration. Keep an eye out for Mia’s half-sister Olivia who has yet to appear on the screen.

Although there have been no casting announcements, it is difficult to see how Disney could make a Princess Diaries movie without Anne Hathaway in some form or another. She has been vocally supportive of a third installment of the franchise. It would be a big surprise if Disney could not persuade her to reprise the role of Mia. Unfortunately, Julie Andrews ruled a comeback to Genovia unlikely in an interview earlier this year, so we have probably seen the last of Queen Clarisse Renaldi.
The Princess Diaries movies made over 300 million dollars between them. A third film is certain to be a massive hit. More than that, it would be introducing a new generation to the heart-warming, highly relatable princess. As always, watch this space!
The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement is available for streaming on Disney+.
