Catherine Keener has joined the cast of Joker: Folie à Deux, the follow-up to 2019’s Joker. The film is due to be released on October 24, 2024, with filming expected to start this December. Todd Phillips will direct the film which he co-wrote with Scott Silver. Keener joins a cast that already has Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as the titular Joker. Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, and Zazie Beetz have also been announced.

Keener has twice been nominated for Oscars for the films Being John Malkovich and Capote. She is mostly known for her work in independent films, although she has appeared in supporting roles in major studio productions like The Incredibles 2 and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Little is known about Joker: Folie à Deux so far, but there are rumors. One rumor has it that the film will be set in Arkham Asylum which would make sense as that is where Phoenix’s character ended up in the first film. Another rumor says that the Joker sequel might be a musical. That’s supported by the casting of Lady Gaga.

Warner Bros and DC did not comment on Keener, and it is still unknown what role she will play in the new film.
