Original 'Black Doom' Voice Actor May Not Be Reprising His Role
There is still a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations. The game features Shadow traveling through his past and facing off against one of his old adversaries: Black Doom. However, though the villain himself may be the same, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll sound the same. Some may have presumed that the original English voice actor for the alien, Sean Schemmel (known for playing Son Goku in the Dragon Ball franchise), would be reprising his role. However, according to the actor, this might not be the case. In a February post on his X feed, Schemmel stated that he did reaudition, but they seemingly passed on him.
However, the actor misunderstood and thought the game had already been released, so he posted again, clarifying that he had not recorded on the game.

At that time, Schemmel seemed unaware if he was returning to voice the character, but he hoped he would return since he went through “a lot of trouble to create that voice.” Others have speculated who is voicing him in the clips revealed thus far, with some saying it was either Sean Chiplock or Xeno Robinson, with the later speculation being due to him hosting a panel on Shadow at Anime Expo earlier this year. While Robinson has not yet commented on whether or not he is voicing Black Doom, Chiplock has denied that he is voicing the alien, saying:
This would not be the first time an original voice actor reauditioned for a role in the Sonic franchise and was unfortunately passed over. Ryan Drummond, the original English voice of Sonic in the video games, reauditioned for the character during the latest cast shakeup in 2010. However, they would only let him reprise his role if he left his union, which Drummond could not do. Whether or not Sean Schemmel is voicing Black Doom remains to be seen, but signs are seemingly pointing to it not being him.
