Noriko Ohara, known for being the voice of Nobita Noby (or Noby in the English versions of the anime and manga) from 1979 until 2005, passed away on July 12th at the age of 88. Her agency announced that she was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed disease prior to her death.

Born Noriko Tobe on October 2nd, 1935, in Tokyo, Japan, the actress had quite a prolific voice-over career. Ohara’s first credited role was as Chiro the Squirrel in the 1968 movie The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun. Her first role in the Doraemon series was actually Nobita’s mother, Tamako Nobi, in the 1973 Doraemon anime. She would take over for Yoshiko Ohta as Nobita in the following 1979 anime, similar to how she took over for Ohta in episodes 14-78 in the 1969 anime Marine Boy.
