Nominations For The Golden Globes Are In; Here's What Movies To Look For

Awards season is once again rapidly approaching, and the Golden Globe nominations have been released.  2023 was an interesting year for cinema; with animated wonders like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and huge live-action productions like Barbie and Oppenheimer the year’s content was iconic, and this is reflected in the nominations.  From amazing soundtracks and songs to contending best directors, here’s what movies to look out for!

Barbie has a total of nine nominations; the categories include Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Best Director - Motion Picture, and three song nominations.  Oppenheimer comes in as a close second with eight nominations, several of which compete against Barbie; its categories include Best Motion Picture - Drama, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and Best Director - Motion Picture.

Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things both have a decent haul of nominations, coming in at seven each.  The former is also in the Best Motion Picture - Drama category while the latter is also in the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category.  The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lead the animated movies with three nominations each.

The overall film nominations span a variety of categories; there are 15 in total.  The Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award is new to the ceremony, occurring for the first time in 2024.  The 81st Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 7, 2024, at 5 PM Pacific/8 PM Eastern.  The show’s host for this ceremony has yet to be announced.  Tickets for the general public are unavailable; it can be watched live on CBS or streamed on Paramount+.
